How to Market Your MLM Business
Your first option
So you just signed up with you respective MLM company and you are super excited. You can already see the checks coming in. You can see that perfect lifestyle you desire. So you follow the advice of your upline members and it goes something like this:
1. Make a warm contact list. This includes family, friends, neighbors, coworkers and anyone else you know who you think would be 'good' for this business.
2. You then call each of these people and invite them to attend a conference call about the business. Then you follow up with them.
3. Next your upline will instruct you to buy leads or cold call leads using call scripts. You call as many as you can only to have spoken to five people (who didn't sound like qualified prospects anyway) and left a hundred messages only to have no one call you back. The people you actually do talk to ask questions like "is this a pyramid scheme."
4. Then your upline will tell you to hold house meetings and give out free samples of the product. And even though you still have had no progress up until this point, you are instructed to purchase tickets to fly out to some far away city and attend the company event.
5. To top this off when you tell your upline nothing is working they just tell you to do more. Some 'more' recommendations would be to pass out business cards, post flyers and prospect in public areas.
Now if any of these silly recommendations sound familiar to you, don't worry, you are not alone. This is some of the outdated advice that MLM organizations are teaching their new members. This stuff did work back in the 90's, but has now been pummeled by a much more targeted and effective approach.
The better and more powerful option
This options consists of using technology and high leverage resources to build your business ten times quicker compared to the above option. Sounds better already doesn't it?
Here is what is included in the next option.
1. Using the internet to build your business. This includes the use of web sites, auto responders, social networking and keyword research.
2. The concept of attraction marketing.
3. Tapping into the power of social media.
4. Building your list of qualified leads and prospects.
5. Focusing on highly targeted areas to find the perfect people to join the business.
6. Targeting people who need the product your company offers.
Here is the basic process of how all of this works:
You will more than likely be given a replicated web site by your company. This web site should only be used if you DO NOT have your own or this internet thing is too tricky at first. Next you will want to focus on your ideal audience or target market. Key word phrases you would want to focus on would be 'work from home,' 'home based business,' 'MLM,' 'network marketing,' 'how to start a business from home,' etc.. Your next step would be to focus on a marketing approach to drive traffic to your web site.
Some of these marketing approaches would include:
-pay-per-click advertising
-banner advertising
-social network (Facebook, MySpace, etc.)
-video sharing sites
-articles
-press releases
Your message using each of these marketing options would be to focus on your ideal prospect. Someone who is driven, possibly has some experience already, serious and wants to start a home business.
The concept that makes all of this possible is attraction marketing. You want to attract only certain types of people into your business using the internet. This is much easier compared to hassling your friends and family and trying to sponsor Daryl from the auto body into your business. Also, by taking this approach, you are going to build your business much more quickly. You will only be talking to people who are interested. If you do this correctly, you may not have to talk to anyone on the phone. When you become more experienced with copy writing and selling, your web sites will do most of the hard work and selling for you.
The main reason people hate talking on the phone is fear of rejection. Following the caveman advice of your upline could result in you talking to many leads on the phone and getting rejected. This is terrifying to most people. You can lower your chances of that by using the attraction marketing approach on the internet. But just to grow yourself and increase your chances of sponsoring more people, you will want to work on your phone skills. After a while it will become second nature and you won't even think of the word rejection.
So can you see the difference between the first option and the second? It's an obvious choice which one is the smarter way to market your MLM business.
